Aprender a tosquiar
Aqui ficam algumas fotos da Oficina Prática de Tosquia que fizemos pela primeira vez na Quinta de Serralves este ano, logo a seguir à demonstração da manhã.
O Martin trouxe o equipamento profissional dele e nós, desta vez, arranjamos uma bela mesa de desbordagem para explicar todo o processo como deve ser.
Na oficina cobriram-se os tópicos do equipamento, manuseamento do animal e da tosquia propriamente dita. Toda a gente teve a oportunidade de treinar com o acompanhamento próximo do Martin, tosquiando três exemplares da ovelhas Bordaleiras de Entre-Douro-e-Minho que vivem na quinta.
Uma oficina ou formação de tosquia não é algo que seja fácil de encontrar em Portugal nos dias que correm, por isso foi bom receber pessoas que quiseram vir aprender para aplicar o conhecimento nas suas próprias ovelhas.
Durante a manhã, algumas pessoas perguntaram o que vamos fazer com esta lã que tosquiamos e guardamos: para o próximo Outono estão agendadas algumas oficinas de processamento de fibra, incluindo fiação, tinturaria e feltragem, e a matéria-prima vai ser esta, produzida aqui mesmo na Quinta! Faz sentido, não?
Learning to shear
Here are a few photos of the Shearing Workshop that took place last saturday in Serralves, right after the morning demonstration.
Martin brought his professional equipment and we managed to get a nice wool skirting table to explain the whole process.
In the workshop several topics were covered, including equipment, sheep handling and shearing, of course. Everyone had the opportunity to try their hand at it under Martin's guidance, shearing three of the Bordaleira de Entre-Douro-e-Minho sheep that live on the farm.
Shearing training or even a simple workshop is not something easy to come by in Portugal, so it was nice to have people that came to learn about the process so that they could improve how they have been shearing their own small flock of sheep. This was the goal of offering such a specific workshop.
During the morning some people asked what we were doing with all that wool: it will be used in several fiber processing workshops, including spinning, felting and dyeing, that are scheduled for next Fall. Yes, the workshops will be taught using the fiber produced right there on the farm! That's how it is supposed to be, right?
