FROM FLAX TO LINEN 2018
- FULL COURSE AND WORKSHOPS -
In 2018 we'll once again grow Flax and offer a series of activities related to the production of this wonderful fiber and its processing.
This Spring we have started a new partnership with BioHabitus, an organic farming project located right here in Porto, that will be hosting us to grow not just our flax field, but also our dyer's plants. Growing our own materials has become increasingly moer important and differentiating for the workshops we offer, so this is something we want to invest in even more.
On the Flax (or Linen) theme, this year we will be offering a complete course of about 5 sessions that will happen on the weekends. The course sessions are also available as stand-alone workshops.
(5 weekend sessions from April to July)
This will be the second edition of the Flax course. The first edition went so well that it made us want to invest in longer courses that will give the participants a real view and feeling of the subject.
In this course we respect the natural timings of Flax growing and fiber processing. We will be learning through making, but will be giving special attention to the technical aspects of this craft, which is essential for the production of quality fiber.
The course will start in April when we will get together to sow our flax and it will end in July with us scutching, heckling and spinning the fiber we have grown and processed into linen in the past months.
Please note that we will be growing a very rare portuguese regional variety of flax: Linho Galego. We also grow it organically and process it accordingly to sustainable methods mostly based on portuguese traditional methods upgraded with technical knowledge developed through our own investigation.
This course only happens once a year during springtime.
