Felting a mosaic of Portuguese wools?
The small exhibition about Portuguese Wool that I improvised for the Festa de Outono worked out really well, but the raw fleece samples were in such a natural state that it was really easy to fall apart when we touched it.
Keeping the fleece sample in their natural state is absolutely essential for me. There's nothing like seeing and touching a raw fleece to understand what kind of wool it is, through the lock shape and structures, the grease, etc.
Next year I would really like to do another exhibition, but more beautiful and resistant, so Ana Rita suggested that we tried felting a little the back of the samples, so that it would gain more consistency while keeping the front intact.
We experimented a little withe the Campaniça sample and, although we still have to work on some details to make it work as I imagine, there's no doubt that felting will allow me to finally build the portuguese wool mosaic I imagine!
