Our new Natural Dyeing Online Course!
We've just launched our new online course platform and the Online Course on Introduction to Natural Dyeing led by Guida Fonseca!
This was the first online course we produced at Saber Fazer! We took the initiative to do this while we were still at the beginning of what would be (and still is) a long period of pandemic. It was at this time that we started teaching online, live, but we wanted to create something more robust and long-lasting, that would be useful and relevant, even when we returned to the face-to-face format. What we wanted to offer was training that was always available online, so that you could learn in your own time, at your own pace, in your own time zone.
We started filming in June 2020 and it was a long process of creating information, revising and reformulating the course that had already been taught at Saber Fazer, but which we wanted to make even better and more complete.
his course was filmed entirely in our space, here in Porto. Saber Fazer's space is unique and intense, full of materials, tools, colors and smells. Even though we knew that the conditions for capturing images and sound wouldn't be perfect, we preferred to do it here, so that you feel like you're with us, just like in a face-to-face workshop.
The creation of this course and the following ones was made possible thanks to the collaboration of João Bento Soares, who was responsible for capturing and editing all the videos.
The new online courses are extensive courses that replicate the curriculum of our face-to-face courses, but in pre-recorded video format, along with downloadable images, texts and documents.
They are accessible at any time, on a dedicated platform, so you can take the training anywhere, at your own pace.

About the Online Course on Introduction to Natural Dyeing
The Beginning Natural Dyeing online course is an extensive and very complete course that aims to convey the fundamental concepts of dyeing, going through all the preparation procedures, mordanting and dozens of methods for dyeing with the most important dyes of natural origin, as well as procedures for free experimentation. This course is suitable both for those who have no experience in the area and want to start with good foundations, and for those who want to consolidate the knowledge they already have, or even for those who simply want to have a good support for their regular practice.
This course includes:
- Videos and images with the integral processes;
- 52 procedures and recipes in pdf format for download;
- Subtitled videos in Portuguese and English;
- More than 50 lessons to learn everything from textile preparation and mordanting to dozens of dyeing recipes for multiple natural dyes, as well as finishing and experimentation tips;
