Learn how to weave, dye, felt and work with Portuguese wool
The October workshops start on October 15 and will take place over three weekends, teaching how to weave, dye, felt and work wool from raw fleece to yarn, at Quinta de Serralves.
Each day will have two different sessions: a morning dedicated to experimentation, aimed at people of all ages, and an afternoon dedicated to a beginners' workshop for adults, with limited capacity.
On Saturday, October 15, Guida Fonseca will be here to teach Weaving workshops with the assistance of Fernando Rei.
On Sunday, October 16, Guida will again be teaching us Natural Dyeing. These workshops have been specifically designed for those interested in learning how to dye using plants and other natural pigments, with no negative impact on the environment. As a bonus, those who take part on this day will also be able to see some of the dye plants we've grown this year on the farm.
Ana Rita de Albuquerque, from Volume Atelier, will be here to teach us about Felting, using only wool from native breeds. Those who take part in this workshop will have the unique opportunity to learn how to felt raw wool, specifically using wool from indigenous breeds.
To end the cycle, Isabel Cartaxo and I will dedicate a whole day to Portuguese wool and its processing on October 29. Using all kinds of raw wool, churras, bordaleiras and merinas, we'll learn how to wash, prepare and spin using different methods. Most importantly, those who take part will have the opportunity to try out and get to know the different Portuguese wools first hand.
The workshop calendar where you can find a more detailed description of each of these days is available on this page.
