Saber Fazer at the Fall Festival - 2016
Next weekend, September 24 and 25, we will once again be at the Fall Festival at Quinta de Serralves, with a series of experimental activities and demonstrations.
This year we have the Bordaleira sheep from Entre-Douro-e-Minho as the central character and its wool, as well as that of the other native breeds, will be the motto not only for the usual workshops, but also for the first exhibition dedicated to Portuguese wool, guided tours of the entire wool transformation process and some demonstrations.
The detailed program of our activities, including times and locations, can be found in the official Fall Festival program, here, but here's an indication of what's going to happen:
// “PORTUGUESE WOOL” EXHIBITION //
FREE VISIT 10h00-19h00
In addition to information aimed at showing the type of wool that each breed of sheep produces and its potential for textile use, this exhibition includes samples of all the fleeces, which visitors will be able to see and touch. This “family reunion”, which is taking place for the first time (!), precedes the publication of the Practical Guide to Portuguese Wool and is a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the wool produced in Portugal.
// GUIDED TOUR OF THE ENTIRE WOOL PROCESS, FROM SHEEP TO FABRIC //
SAT: 12h30 and 16h00 - SUNDAY: 12h00 and 16h00
This tour will be led by me, Alice Bernardo, and by Nuno Monteiro, who is AMIBA 's manager for the Bordaleira de Entre-Douro-e-Minho breed and who will accompany us on both days through the entire wool process, from sheep to fabric, and also to the Portuguese Wool Exhibition. Great for those who want to know more and like to ask very specific questions about sheep and their wool.
This visit will take place twice a day, with a pick-up point at the Exhibition (see the Serralves program for more information).
// SPINNING EXPERIMENTATION //
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 10-19H
Here you can learn how to spin wool with a spindle and wheel. This will be led by Mafalda Pacheco, Eglé Bazaraite and Tita Costa.
// WEAVING EXPERIMENTATION //

// FELTING EXPERIMENTATION //

// NATURAL DYEING DEMONSTRATION //
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 4PM
This demonstration, which will take place once a day at 4pm and will be given by Tita Costa, it's the perfect opportunity to get to know the basics of dyeing, with time and space to ask questions and observe the process.

Ana Rita, as well as guiding the experimentation, will give a demonstration of the felting technique she uses in her work as a textile artist once a day at 4pm.
