Saber-fazer at the Museum of Fashion and Textiles
A few weeks ago, the Fashion and Textiles Museum opened in Vila Nova de Gaia, a new museum that is part of the World of Wine complex.
It is a space dedicated to fashion and the history of the Portuguese textile industry, but at the beginning of the exhibition circuit there is a part of the exhibition dedicated to raw materials, right down to the yarn, and weaving, which had our contribution in the form of technical and scientific consultancy, the production of texts, content and the supply of all the exhibition materials.
It was very interesting to develop content to communicate the production process of raw materials in the context of the link to the fashion industry, without neglecting technical knowledge, but making it interesting for any type of visitor. It's a part of the museum dedicated to the origin of things!
For each of the materials, you can take a journey that starts with the seed, the sheep, the egg, the tree or the oil, and follow its entire processing path until you get the yarn from which fabrics are made. And moving on to weaving, learn about weaving drafts by understanding the connection between fabrics and their design and planning.
Alice Bernardo was responsible for developing all the raw materials content.
The weaving and weaving drafts theme was developed by Guida Fonseca.
The floating elements showing a sheep and a cow in the raw materials section were created especially for the Museum by Ana Rita de Albuquerque.
