Shearing at Quinta de Serralves - 2017
Another year, another brilliant shearing done by Martin at Quinta de Serralves.
The more I learn about wool and the more shearings I see, the more special I think this moment is, that we have the opportunity to offer to the Foundation's audience.
It is the conjugation of everything a shearing should be: the respect for the animal that gives us such a valuable fiber, respect for wool as a raw matter and respect for the shearer as a professional.
Those that are with us during this activity see serene animals, a calm and efficient shearing and can enjoy and learn from the wool we are receiving.
Of course, the success of Saber Fazer's activities greatly depend on the professionals I choose to come represent their craft. This is probably where I spend most of my time and effort, finding this special people. This case is no exception because Martin and Susana love their work, the animals and wool. And although the shearing season is quite an intense time for them and coming to Porto especially for this event, they understand how important it is to present the shearing as a moment to educate the public. At the end I always feel the mission is accomplished.
The fleeces were well skirted, rolled and stored and will be processed later at the farm through our workshops.
