Winding the Warp
Since there are fewer traditional handlooms around and the people that have them work less each day, having the opportunity to help making a warp is a rare event.
I had noticed that D.Ilídia's loom warp was almost over, so I kept insisting with her to make a new one. The insistence must have worked because I managed to set a day for it and I brought Maria Helena to help out - since I had to make photos and a few videos, another person was needed to help keep the thread untangled, set the new bobbins and help remove the warp after it was done.
We started by the early afternoon and finished 5 hours later, when it was already night outside and without any light to take decent pictures. D.Ilídia got her warp done and we were happy to be able to help and learn how to do this.
The day was over and I couldn’t document the installation of the warp onto the loom, but I’ve got my eye on another loom that is going to get a new warp soon.
Some of the pictures are here, but since this is a complex task, I don’t see how to explain it without the help of the videos.
