Weaving Typologies of Vinhais – “Cultura Para Todos em Vinhais” Edition
We understand that recovering the knowledge associated with manual weaving is the only way to safeguard and perpetuate it, keeping it alive. This manual, with a technical focus, aims to make it possible to reproduce the weaving typologies that are part of the cultural lexicon of this region, thus enabling their revival.
In an initial phase, various pieces were documented, collected from several parishes in Vinhais, such as bedspreads, blankets, and traditional careto costumes, generously lent by community members who lovingly preserve these artifacts. After identifying the representative fabric typologies of the region, they were thoroughly analyzed and their technical data sheets produced.
This technical analysis and its translation into the universal language of weaving is an essential step to make the information accessible and enable the reproduction of these textiles by new weavers.
This publication was developed within the scope of the “Culture for All in Vinhais” project and is available for free download.
