Portuguese Wool national classification system

classificacão das lãs nacionais mário coelho morais

One thing that is good to know, is the classification system that is being used in our country. These two tables aren't the easiest thing to find (this book is from 1947), but I was lucky enough to find it in a bookshop right here in Porto, at the moment I started looking for it.
This classification system was the work of Dr.Mário Coelho Morais, back in the 40's, and it was created to provide the textile industry with some kind of orientation. It basically classifies wool in two different ways: one, according to its textile characteristics, and the second one, according to the fiber thickness. This last table also relates our classification with the english and french ones, which is useful.
At first I thought this was more interesting for someone who is working with wool at a more industrial level, but I quickly changed my mind when we started the study about portuguese wool and started to find the same terms used in a more generic way, in some situations, and with a very specific and technical meaning, in others, which was very confusing at first! So, at least, this document helps clarify when I'm dealing with one situation, or the other.
