Sheep shearing workshop and demonstration at Serralves - 21st of May 2016
The 2016 shearing season is open and we'll be having a demonstration at Serralves farm again, happening next saturday the 21st of May. Adding to the great moment that the demonstration already is, this year we'll be hosting a novice shearing workshop, during the afternoon, featuring Martin O'Connel as our teacher.
Our purpose for the day is very simple: to teach and educate about the importance of shearing the sheep in order to guarantee its well being, but also about the basic principles of a good shearing that should always ally the respect for the animal with the technical know-how that allows us to obtain good quality wool.
The workshop is not meant to teach future professional shearers, but rather give more and better information to anyone who has an interest in this area and would like to become more discerning about the shearing process.
So, we'll have a full day with two activities:
SHEARING DEMONSTRATION / 21st OF MAY 11H-13H / SERRALVES FARM
The demonstration will be in the morning, starting at 11h by the stables. It is open to the general public, requiring only the Park ticket. Just head out to the farm, by the stables, at the set hour, and you'll find a mini-herd and a shearer ready to go.
SHEARING NOVICE WORKSHOP / 21st of MAY 15H-18H / SERRALVES FARM
In the afternoon, at 15h, we'll have the novice workshop. This will be limited to 10 people and Martin will be our teacher for the afternoon. This is a great opportunity to learn more about a crucial step in obtaining good quality wool for textile use and gain some technical knowledge that will help tell apart a good from a bad shearing.
The details are still to be published at Serralves program. When they are, I'll publish the info here. Meanwhile, if you would like to be notified, just send an email my way.
