Where do spindles come from
MISSOM has been in my Roteiro Oficinal do Porto top for at least three years. If you don't know MISSOM, it's enough to say that they are makers of some of the best drumsticks in the world. That's not an overstatement, that's just how it is. Their craftsmanship is flawless, the woods are the best available and the technical precision is amazing.
So, what do drumsticks have to do with Saber Fazer? Well, drumsticks and spindles have a lot in common, being both woodturned objects that require precision and quality, and from now on all SF's spindles will be made by MISSOM, more specifically by Miguel Ralha himself, founder of the company and top notch woodturner.
That portuguese spindle up there was a sample that Miguel thought I would not want to keep, because he turned it just for fun using both the heartwood and sapwood of a piece of rosewood. But, as you can tell by just looking at the photo, it's the most beautiful spindle I've ever owned and the way it feels on the hand... just wonderful. The only thing missing is the groove, which I'll be carving myself, as usual.
Spindles will be again available at the shop, very soon. Better than ever.
