Porto Fashion and Fabric Museum

Vila Nova de Gaia, 2019-2021

Pormenor do expositor dedicado à produção de Linho

Research, creation of exhibition content, text production, and technical and scientific consulting for the installation of the Porto Fashion and Fabric Museum, located at WOW - World of Wine in Vila Nova de Gaia.

The Museum of Fashion and Textiles is a space dedicated to fashion and the history of the Portuguese textile industry. At the beginning of the exhibition route, a section was created focusing on raw materials, up to the yarn stage, and weaving, with contributions from Saber Fazer in the form of technical and scientific consulting, the production of texts and content, and the provision of all exhibition materials.

It was very interesting to develop content that explains the production process of raw materials in the context of the fashion industry, without neglecting the technical details, but making it engaging for all types of visitors. It’s a section of the museum dedicated to the origins of things!

For each of these materials, we can take a journey that begins with the seed, the sheep, the egg, the tree, or the oil, and follow the entire processing chain until we arrive at the yarn from which the fabrics are made. Moving on to weaving, we can learn about pattern drafting and understand the connection between fabrics and their design and planning.

Alice Bernardo was responsible for developing all the content related to raw materials. The section on weaving and drawing was developed by Guida Fonseca. The display stands featuring a sheep and a cow in the raw materials section were created especially for the Museum by Ana Rita de Albuquerque.
