On the retting of flax (pt2)

Although simple and short, I make a point of making video clips along the way to illustrate some things that are harder to explain otherwise. One of those is the comparison of a well retted flax (right) with a flax that was not retted enough (left).
On the right, we can see that the flax peels off the wooden core easily and in one single piece. This is perfect and it will be easy to work with!
On the left, we can see that the wooden core breaks, but the flax doesn't come loose easily. This means the retting process wasn't quite finished yet and the flax is still too attached to the core, which will make it harder to scutch and will create more tow and waste.
The time difference between the two rettings, under the same conditions, was of 2 days.
