After the trouble we had finding Galego Flax seed to start our crop in Serralves last year, it felt good to have it multiplied and have this year's sowing assured without having to count seeds.
Once again, I wanted to have it done earlier, but the endless rain we had here kept us postponing it. Last week the sun came out and we managed to do it.
The second time around, we benefited from last year's experience and some things were done better: the soil was prepared a little more careful, the seeds were all broadcasted to guarantee a good and even plant density and we even managed to find a cylinder to compact the soil, which was great because I think we tripled the area.
So, based on what I learned last year from Dores, Eng.António Silva and my own experience, here are the basics for a good flax sowing:

- good preparation of the soil;

- good timing! Picking the right time is crucial. In Porto the sowing can be done has soon as March, as long as the frost is gone. In the interior, the season is a little bit later;

- broadcasting the seed in an even an dense distribution, to make sure the flax grows tall and thin;

- covering the seed with about 1 cm of soil and compact the ground to pump the moisture from the lower layers (no watering needed at his stage!);
